Does adding SSD void laptop warranty?

If you are using laptops from any of the named brands such as HP, Asus, Lenovo, Dell, etc, you can install new SSDs and RAMs without voiding your warranty. The companies actually encourage their users to upgrade their systems using suitable hardware if they want.

However, it is always good to get in touch with the customer support of your laptop manufacturer before you open up your laptop. Also, if you do any damage to the internals or externals of your laptop, this will not come within the warranty.

On some laptops, you will see the warranty stickers on the screwheads. In that case, it is crucial to contact the support before damaging that seal and opening your laptop. However, some laptops will have separate panels to easily upgrade your drives and RAMs.

So, in this article, we are going to know more about this to help you become full assured about this topic.

I own an HP laptop and I have upgraded it with an M.2 SATA SSD. I did that after getting in touch with customer support and they said that you don’t void the warranty as long as you are not damaging any component inside your laptop. You can also read this forum to become more confident about it.

However, if you read you are user manual, the company always suggests that you visit the HP service center to get this thing done. But, this doesn’t mean that you can’t do this on your own. Basically, you can add a new SSD to any HP laptop and the warranty will not void.

Again, Lenovo does allow its users to upgrade their SSDs on their own. You can see this discussion to get more information on this topic. Also, I have contacted the US Lenovo support and confirmed the same from them as well. However, the policies may vary as per your country. So, you should definitely consider getting in touch with customer care services before you go further with the self-installation.

No, Asus Rog laptops also allow you to upgrade your SSD on your own. But, make sure to do it properly because these laptops may be hard to open. If you own a Rog laptop, you will have an SSD already inside it. However, if you want to upgrade, you will have the options available.

I would not suggest opening your laptop and installing the SSD on your own if you are not fully confident that you can do it. If it is an M.2 SSD, the installation process will be a little bit easier. SATA SSDs can be tricky because you have brackets to open. But, still, anybody with a little technical knowledge can do this fairly easily.

While installing your SSD on your own, you should keep a mind that you use proper tools. If you can, follow any online visual guide to do everything in a proper manner.
